What your Zodiac Sign Says about your Home Buying Mentality
Realtors well know that every Buyer approaches the home purchase process differently. Every transaction inevitably becomes a study in human behavior, and the best agents learn how to communicate effectively with every personality type.
In order to get a sense of where new buyers are emotionally as they embark on what is likely to be the biggest investment of their lives, we professionals ask them all sorts of preliminary questions in an effort to learn as much about them as we can in the short amount of time that we have with them. But there is one question that the majority of us neglect to ask – the one question, aka the best recognized retro pick-up line in history; that really shortcuts right to the heart of it all: “What’s your sign?”
The zodiac, long accepted into mainstream culture, is considered by many to be the most expeditious way of getting to know someone. So one (one broker that is) can’t help but wonder, what does it have to say about how buyers buy?
So what does your zodiac sign say about how you approach buying a home? Perhaps more than you think. Read on to see how well your sign’s personality indicators suit you:
Aries (March 21 – April 19)
Hmmmm. Fun one to start with. Anyone else know one (or several) impulsive Aries who stress about money one minute and the next tell you that they splurged on something that could respectfully be considered an unnecessary expense? Seriously Aries; put down that credit card. And that one. And I see that other one you hid in the freezer.
Aries are well-known for their impulsive nature and they have no problem spending money. Watch out realtors, Aries can justify just about any purchase price. If you are an Aries, sit down with a financial advisor and work out a realistic budget before you start the purchase process. You will benefit by having someone else involved with overseeing your financial decisions. Think of it this way, if you control your impulses and budget enough, you, unlike most buyers, have the nerve to make some risky and unconventional real estate investments, with the potential for some great monetary returns.
Taurus (April 20 – May 20)
Any Taurus who read the above is probably cringing in horror. If you are a Taurus, your home purchase process will be dramatically different because your financial security is a priority at all times. You don’t just want to have money; you want to have a lot of it.
This may lead you to be a very frugal buyer. While financial security is a great thing, just be careful not to let it work against you. It is often taking risks in Real Estate that return the greatest rewards.
Gemini (May 21 – June 20)
Speaking from personal experience on this one. Us Gemini’s have a pattern: spend, save, spend, save. Our dual nature pretty much guarantees that a solid down payment may be a bit tough to come by because while we are great at saving, we are equally great at splurging.
So if you’re a Gemini like me, money is probably on your mind at all times. Like Aries, we need to budget, but our budgets better be realistic and account for all the crazy plans we are going to come up with every month or so.
Realtor’s don’t panic, trust your Gemini client’s bargaining instincts. Through all that chatter we know how to negotiate some great deals. And don’t feel too bad if that first deal goes bad, because tomorrow we will bounce back and be in love with another house more than the first one.
Cancer (June 21 – July 22)
So rumor has it that there are more self-made millionaires born as Cancers than any other zodiac sign. Cancer sign buyers are going to impress, their financial know-how and financial freedom make them great clients – but us realtors may find ourselves working the hardest at getting them to have fun during the process. I.e. Cancer’s have the money but they might need a crazier sign to host their house-warming party.
Leo (July 23 – August 22)
Leo’s love to spend money…on those they love. If a Leo is the main provider in a family, a realtor should know that they are going to get their family the best their money can buy. Don’t let their big ego and pride distract you from their caring intentions. Leo’s also may have an impatience for conflict in a tough negotiation – when they feel wronged (say, by an irrational seller) they tend to walk away without so much a glance back. Realtors should not try too hard to save deadlocked transactions – better to move on the greener pastures and a new property.
Virgo (August 23 – September 22)
So Virgo’s are…cheap. Okay, a bit of an exaggeration, but they are pretty frugal, so ladies if you want a guy to wine and dine you don’t date a Virgo.
But in a fairer and more positive light, Virgo’s are great savers. As home buyers they are going to be well-qualified and financially stable. The problem a realtor will have with them is actually getting them to let some of their money go – as home buying at some point does require forking over a bit, (or a ton) of cash. Be mindful of Virgo’s deep reflective nature – it may take them longer than most to come to a decision on a home.
Libra (September 23 – October 22)
Libra clients require a lot of second guessing on the part of their realtor, because Libra’s will often say “yes,” when they should be saying “no.” Without good guidance a Libra may end up in a lovely house…on the floor eating rice and beans by candlelight because they can’t pay the electric bill. A happy Libra is a balanced Libra (financially and emotionally), but their ability to put on a façade that masks their true desires makes them tough buyers to read. Realtors with Libra clients, you have your work cut out for you!
Scorpio (October 23 – November 21)
So Scorpio’s may initially freak their new realtor out a tiny bit. They are INTENSE. And a bit, um, DRAMATIC. But once their realtor adjusts and gets to know his or her new buyer, they will know that they are in for one of the most passionately driven purchase processes they have ever been involved with. Realtors; go with it but remember that it is your job to keep your Scorpio’s rational, more practical side in the game. They are deeply intuitive, and they typically know what the right decision is, it just may take some assistance on your part to help them acknowledge it.
Sagittarius (November 22 – December 21)
Sagittarius are so direct and honest that working with them can be a breeze – no need to figure out what they really want because they will know and tell you. Their finances get better with age –young Sagittarius having a difficult time holding onto money will mature into adults with financial security.
One word of warning, although generally easygoing, Sagittarius is a fire sign, and a problem-heavy transaction may bring out a Sagittarius’ quick temper. Luckily, they are usually quick to forget what got them angry in the first place: so when the purchase process gets emotional make sure they get some down time to breathe and regroup.
Capricorn (December 22 – January 21)
Capricorns possess a “feet on the ground, eye on the prize,” personality. They know how to do things and how to get them done – their realistic and grounded approach to things keeps them focused on worthwhile pursuits. They also know how to manage their money well.
Capricorns seldom wear their emotions on their sleeve, so realtors may have a tougher time reading them, but as clients they are dependable, loyal, and patient. Working with a Capricorn may be a slow process but with your help they will wait for the best deal.
Aquarius (January 22 – February 18)
Aquarius buyers are going to have some crazy ideas. They are non-conformist, philanthropic, creative, and wholly unique. Realtors should plan for a non-traditional home buying process if an Aquarius is involved. Trust that they will end up with what they really want at the end of the process
Just make sure that they don’t go out and buy what they want before they really have the money for it!
Pisces (February 19 – March 20)
Pisces get ready for this fun fact: while Cancer’s boast a lot of self-made millionaires, Pisces claims the most millionaires of any type. Pisces attract money, and they save and invest with great skill. They are visionaries, often trendsetters in fashion or art, or leaders of other diverse fields. Word of warning during the home-buying process, Pisces like to see the world the way they want to see it and they get very caught up in their own inner state– keep them in touch with the realities of a transaction. Pisces are also probably the most sensitive sign, and their emotions need to be paid attention to throughout the home buying process. Don’t be deterred by this, Pisces exploratory nature oftentimes results in them embracing some unusual and unlikely properties!
